 Vertical Rescue Training
40 Hour Training Program
Basic and Intermediate Rope Rescue
Introduction to Structural Rescue Operations

The Rescue I Training Program involves instruction of the fundamental skills and techniques necessary in the vertical rope rescue environment. The Rescue I Training Program is broken into a combination of classroom work and field exercises. In the classroom, the course introduces the student to the equipment, knots and safety techniques necessary in the vertical environment In the field, Rescue I allows the students to gain practical experience in basic rope evolutions. Students are also instructed on the latest specialized equipment designed exclusively for ascending. Mechanical Advantage Theory and hauling systems are taught and used in the field exercises. Confined space entry is briefly discussed. The course offers comprehensive coverage of stretcher/litter operations including lowering with and without attendants in rescue situations. Topics range from packaging the patients in the stretcher/litter to techniques and systems used to haul the stretcher with or without a rescue attendant.

The final activity of Rescue I involves student participation in a Vertical Rescue Scenario to help them develop their skills in a practical application situation. Each student must demonstrate proficiency in all rescue techniques in the field exercises. Rescue I lays the foundation for all other vertical or confined space rescue training programs offered by Urban H.A.R.T.
